Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

I work in a lab that has both RO (reverse osmosis) and distilled water, and we do not drink them. I've never tried them, but I'm pretty sure they would have a drying effect in your mouth, because especially the distilled (and in our case deionized) water has absolutely no ions (like chloride, magnesium, etc) in it, so it's going to act like a sponge in your mouth and body, trying to suck in ions to equilibrate with your system. I would not recommend drinking this kind of water.

Also, tap water in the U.S. and other industrialized countries is perfectly safe, and very GREEN to drink. You can use a re-usable container (preferably BPA-free, don't re-use an Aquafina bottle for weeks, for example), and not have any waste associated with consuming your daily water.

Happy drinking everyone! Posting about drinking water always makes me thirsty.

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

The very best water I have EVER tasted came right out of my parent's tap in an old house in Bandon, Oregon. It was incredibly soft, filled with natural (not added) fluoride, and tasted better than any bottled water I have tasted. It was almost sweet it was so free of chemical smell and taste.

I have NO idea why it was so good...it WAS city water coming through ancient pipes.

Since I live elsewhere, I use a charcoal filter and do my best to drink my share!

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

I have a water cooler in my house. We don't even give the dogs the tap water. In the five years we've lived here, there have been at least three times (that I can recall right now) where the city ordered everyone to boil their water before drinking it because of hazardous bacteria in the water system. It felt like we were living in the Middle East again!

I don't trust the city to alert in a timely manner, so we've gone bottled. The cooler is very convenient, if not your traditional home-appliance.

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

Water coolers are pretty green too, because they re-sterilize and re-use those bottles. My husband's grandmother lives way out in the sticks of West Virginia (which pretty much means way out in the sticks of the Western world), and their tapwater is undrinkable. It is full of iron so that you can smell iron in their house, and it stains their toilet, sinks, and bathtub red. They have a fancy water filter attached to their water, so theirs is even much better than neighbors' water, but it is still very bad. Anyway, they drink exclusively water cooler water, and for the cat too. No choice, really.

Good water really does have a sweetness to it, doesn't it? Aquafina is my favorite bottled water (which I still like to get when I have to, but I like to carry water with me in the car instead of buying wasteful bottles), and it is very sweet. I wish they would put on the bottles what exactly is in it, but I guess it's proprietary, as opposed to an ingredients requirement like on regular foods. I imagine though that it's a combination of micronutrients that make the water delicious... magnesium, chloride, and probably fluoride. Yum!

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

I am so fortunate that we have awesome well water. In fact my DH has a man that still comes to our house every couple of weeks and fills old water cooler bottles with our water. Like you say it is naturally a bit sweet with a sharp feel to it. Can not explain it, but everyone that ever has water from our tap, comments on how GOOD our water is.

Aquafina is my favorite bottled water if I have to buy it somewhere. I have never had a problem drinking enough water. It really is my beverage of choice, that is after my 2 cups of coffee in the morning.

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

I love distilled water, it's supposed to be the BEST for u! My fav bottled water is Smart Water which is also distilled...altho I try not to buy bottled water too much, we use the big 5 gallon re-fillable water dispensers...I wouldn't wanna drink the tap water, maybe it's just all in my head, but yuck! lol

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

Every week end I do what I call "Landscape Therapy"(it is a welcome change from all the brain work all week long! I enjoy the solitude.)
.... I spend atleast 6 hours each week end day digging in the dirt, dragging the hose, laying down mulch....etc... still repair work from Hurricane Ike.

It gives me time outside in the fresh air... and drinking bottle after bottle of water is no problem!!!
(I love that Snoopy guy!!! No matter what... his Life is good!)

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

Drinking a little more water-but not enough, so trying to remember to "drink".

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

That's a great goal. Instead of water, I've been cheating and drinking home made/unsweetened tea. I just can't stand that PLAIN flavor. Maybe I'm a weirdo. ^^;;

I do wish ya lots of luck on keeping up with the challenge!

Re: Water Water Everywhere Challenge

I am back in need of a water challenge. I am terrible and i just don't know how i even survive on a quart of water a day. omgosh. I much prefer coke zero, but who wouldn't ? lol. I can't even seem to get into it with all the old tricks-crystal light etc. Going to get my act together, my kidneys will thank me.
