Re: Atkins Advantage Bars?

No, it's not that kind of alcohol. It's basically a laxative which is why you don't have to count the carbs because it tends to go right through you. IMO the are a disaster. Not everyone processes them the same so for some people they'll stall you. Worse than that they'll activate cravings. They were definitely a part of my downfall the first time I did atkins. I know this isn't what you want to hear folks but my suggestion to everyone is that they do without the atkins bars or other sugar alcohol fake foods.

Re: Atkins Advantage Bars?

I agree that they can really be the downfall for many people. I would advise to stay away from them completely at least until you are well into plan (as in many months).

I did eat sugar free candy on occassion once I was well into plan. I would eat the reeses sugar free peanut butter cups when I was really craving something sweet (usually when others around me were eating something sweet). But I knew I could only have like 2 of those little jewels because otherwise I would be in the bathroom all. night. long. It's not a joke, they (due to the sugar alcohols) seriously can keep you up all night while they, um, pass through you.

so if you MUST have one, please have it at home.

But beware that ALL sugar free candy or bars that have sugar alcohols listed (most commonly sorbitol or maltitol, and a few others ending in "tol") can have this afffect.

Re: Atkins Advantage Bars?

Well said Laura.

And Malitol, the most common of these sugar alcohols, apparently has a very high impact on blood sugar anyway... I believe I read 75% of normal sugar. They are an abomination.
